The Problem

“Psychology has a reproducibility crisis. Part of that crisis is the ‘Black Box’ of point-and-click analysis.”

In this course, we abandon the “Copy-Paste” workflow. We don’t copy results from SPSS into Excel, format them, and then paste them into Word. That workflow involves human error at every step.

Instead, we build a Living Manuscript.

Course Objective: Build One Paper

We will simulate a real research project. We start with a messy CSV file from Qualtrics, and we end with a submission-ready APA 7th Edition manuscript (PDF/Word).

The Pipeline

  1. Module 1: Wrangling: We take raw data, clean it, score psychometric scales, and reverse-code items using scriptable logic.
  2. Module 2: Tables: We use flextable to generate “Camera Ready” APA Table 1 (Demographics) and Table 2 (Correlations) automatically.
  3. Module 3: Figures: We use ggplot2 to create publication-quality figures that adhere strictly to APA guidelines (Times New Roman, no gridlines).
  4. Module 4: The Manuscript: We weave it all together into a Quarto document that renders your final paper.

Pre-Requisites

  • Basic familiarity with R is helpful, but we will write every line of code together.
  • A desire to never format a table by hand again.
